In Joplin, faith remains where little else stands

A UMNS Report
By Linda Bloom and Fred Koenig*

3:00 P.M. EST May 26, 2011St. Paul’s United Methodist Church sits a mile away from St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo. – a mile previously filled with residences, businesses and medical offices.

But that was before Sunday’s massive tornado battered both facilities and plowed a path between them. “It’s just leveled,” said the Rev. Aaron Brown, senior pastor. “It’s all gone.”

Food Pantry June 2011

FROM THE FOOD PANTRY …
“Share with God’s people who are in need.” Romans 12:13

The Food Pantry Committee thanks our church family for sharing with God’s people who are in need. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to serve (20) families in April.
In addition, we continue to help out the Knox community food bank when they have run out of food.

Jose Marquez is working with Ray from Ray’s Super Foods to have a permanent shopping cart set up at the store for people to donate items for the food pantry

Our Food Pantry is in need of the following items: pancake mix and syrup, sugar, flour, canned fruit, canned pasta, dry pasta, cereal, oatmeal and hamburger helper.

The Food Pantry Committee has changed its meeting date to the first Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. The next meeting will be June 6th. Anyone interested in being a part of this ministry is welcome to attend!

June 2011 Pastor's Article

About a year ago, there was a short lived TV series on TLC about bad cooks. These cooks thought they were good, but their families knew otherwise. Their families suffered week after week of bad cooking, until they got in touch with the show. Then a professional cook confronted the bad cook offering to teach him or her how to cook.

There were a few common themes on all of the shows. One theme was that all the cooks, no matter how bad, thought they were great. Another theme was that they would not use recipes, or if they did, they wouldn’t follow the recipes. Instead, they would just put this and that in until they were satisfied.
