Five Practices - Meeting 5

In reflecting on the fifth practice we tried to understand the meaning of extravagant generosity and how it is connected with tithing. Here are a few of the thoughts that came out of the meeting:

Question: What does extravagant giving mean to you?

  • Above and beyond the call of duty.
  • To give out of joy

Pg. 112: Extravagant Giving exceeds expectations….sacrifice… in service to God and neighbor.

Discussing faith…. And how giving to the church is reflected in how the church gives to the conference. Not only do people give to the church, the church also passes along giving to the conference. Our apportionments are used to support conference administration along with missionaries and missions across the state of Indiana and the world.

Giving beyond…the budget…it isn't about just meeting the budget, but what we are called to do. We don't want to simply give to meet the budget, but instead discern what God is calling us to do and follow that dream. When we are obedient we discover how much he provides.

Our part is to seeking God in our giving. It isn't about feeling like we have met our 'obligation' because we tithe, but it is about seeking God in our giving.

How do we bring this to the church?

- stewardship letters

- personal financial class

- basic decisions

- It is a process.
